Seriously. Ask any stereotypical white girl what her dream car is, and she'll say something along the lines of an Escalade, or a Land Rover, or the like. Some of the more car savvy ones might even say G-Wagen or GC SRT8. And the color they want is always black too. Go try it out and see for yourself. Find the nearest girl and ask her what car she wants.

Because giant black suv=money, or the appearance of money. And stereotypical white girls want fancy expensive shit, and want everyone around them to know it.

Don't even have to ask, I already know. Really is mind boggling to me. When I've asked they can't even give me a solid reason.

Why do boys obsess over miatas? I mean seriously, ask any guy on oppo what he wants and the answer will almost always be a miata.

And i have no problem with their choices. Big, 4wd, v8's, comfortable and arent a minivan! Id rather them answer Escalade, than odyssey or one of those crossovers where a wagon would be much more suitable.
Ideally, my preference is this:
I have a hunch the ladies would complain about two things immediately. The brushbar and the wheels.

Hmm. I can't remember ever getting that response. My wife said "red. Pretty red. With a lot of trunk space. A little red wagon!" Then she thought about it some more and decided on a new E-class wagon and decided she would probably actually like silver better.
Other girls I can remember having this conservation with elicited responses like "old el dorado" and "celica" and "chevelle".

I'm not a woman, so take this with a grain of salt, but I suspect three things play into this.
1. Ride height. I've talked to a few women who say they prefer SUVs because it lets them see over other traffic.
2. Passenger capacity. Dudes dream about having a car that they and only they can ride. Maybe a passenger seat for a girlfriend, but thats about it. Women tend to prefer driving around with all of their friends in tow.
3. Counter programming. The stereotype of the small "chick car" has been around for so long that a lot of women are tired of it and prefer to drive something that isn't small just to break the stereotype.

I don't like Miatas (MX-5 here in the U.K.), I can see why people may like them but I love my little (big) girl.

All the girls I know want a Citroen C2 or DS3, Peugeot 208, VW Polo, etc...
![]() 10/15/2014 at 05:31 |

I've noticed that larger SUVs are predominantly driven by people of shorter than average height. Especially when a truck is driven by a male. One can only guess about the reason(s), but my guess it's compensation.

#1 is so stupid. A tahoe can;t see over the next Tahoe. Just over me in my lowered car.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 09:29 |

Sure, but if most people drive accords/camrys and a lot of dudes drive low slung sports cars, then that's a lot of traffic they can see over.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 09:32 |
|
Yeah. Maybe it's because I have never driven a high up car for long (just odd trips here and there) but I've never understood what seeing over the traffic is supposed to do.
![]() 10/15/2014 at 10:34 |
|
It's nice to be able to see other cars and know what's happening ahead of the car in front of you. Or to pull up a stop, look over and actually see cross traffic instead of being blocked by the car next to you.
Having the extra knowledge of what's happening makes some people feel more secure.

My mom is 5'2" and has always driven big SUVs. Currently has an '03 Ford Expedition bought new. Her reasoning:
1. Seeing over traffic. She gets stressed out when all she can see is the cars immediately surrounding her. Sort of claustrophobic. In a large SUV, she's looking over and past all the sedans around her.
2. Passengers. I have 2 older brothers. In a Cam'cord'tima we'd be jammed in the backseat (and while I'm only 5'8", my brothers are 6'1" and 6'4"). My dad is 6'3", so that really just leaves the seat behind my mom with enough legroom for anybody in the back of a sedan. With an 8 passenger SUV we could all spread out. She used to have a 15-passenger van. Pop out the 4-seater rear bench for more luggage room, and me and my brothers would each get an entire row to ourselves. Perfect for road trips.
3. Utility vs. Vanity. Sure, most minivans could carry 4x8 sheets of plywood nowadays, but they also have a certain stigma to them. My mom does all the repairs around the house, so she's constantly buying large pieces of pipe, bags of concrete, wood, tools, etc. She needs something that can haul it all, and take the abuse. A large towing capacity is also great. Even modern minivans are usually rated for around 3,500 lbs. We'll pull nearly 9,000 behind the Expedition (5.7L, class IV tow package, trailer brake controller, etc).
My dad, meanwhile, is fine driving sedans — for most of his career he'd just commute to work, or drive long distances on the freeway. Mom's car was the "family hauler".

Odysseys are super practical, as are any minivans...
![]() 10/15/2014 at 19:49 |

As practical as they may be, and they are... Id never own one, and hope i never have to eat those words in my future. We have the wagon alternative! But this is not a minivan rant, so i wont go there haha. Its useless and a waste of both of our time and resources.

There is also the safety factory which ties into #1. They feel "safer" in a big car/truck.

Yep. That's the response I see most often. Especially if she has kids.
